Digital business card custom domain: which platforms actually offer one

Most platforms answer “yes” and hand you a sub-domain on their own address. That is not the same thing, and the difference shows up in the URL your prospect reads — and in who keeps the address if you ever leave.

The short answer

Of the five platforms compared here, one offers a genuine customer-owned domain: Mobilo, on an Enterprise plan with a 100-seat minimum. Popl and HiHello offer branded sub-domains on their own domains. Blinq and Dot Card do not document a custom domain on any tier.

NexaLink includes a custom domain on Business ($549 once) and Agency ($1,199 once), with no seat minimum — one person can buy Business and put cards on their own domain. Solo and Team do not include one.

A branded sub-domain is not a custom domain

This is the distinction the category blurs, and it is worth being precise about before looking at any table. Both are marketed as “custom”. Only one of them is yours.

Branded sub-domain

acme.poplme.co

  • The vendor owns the domain and the DNS.
  • Their brand is still in the URL your prospect reads.
  • Nothing to set up — which is exactly why it is offered: it costs the vendor nothing and it locks the address to them.
  • If you leave, the address stops working and you cannot redirect it. Every card, email signature and printed QR pointing at it is dead.

Customer-owned domain

cards.acme.com

  • You own the registration. You control the DNS.
  • Your prospect sees your company in the address bar, with no third party named anywhere in it.
  • Takes one DNS record, and sometimes a second to prove ownership.
  • If you ever move platforms, you repoint the record and every link you have handed out keeps working. That is the whole argument.

Neither one is a white-labelled mobile app. No platform in this comparison, NexaLink included, ships the phone app under your name — a domain changes what a prospect opens, not what your team installs.

Which platforms offer a customer-owned domain

The first column is the only one that answers the question. Everything else is what the vendor offers instead.

Customer-owned domains across digital business card platforms
Customer-owned domainWhat the vendor actually offersMinimum to reach it
PoplNoSub-domain only (subdomain.poplme.co), Pro+ and Teams (unverified figure)Not offered at any tier (unverified figure)
HiHelloNoBranded sub-domain only; cards are hosted on HiHello serversNot offered at any tier
BlinqNoNot documented on any planNot offered at any tier

Dot CardNoNot documented on any tier (unverified figure)Not offered at any tier (unverified figure)
NexaLinkYesYour own domain, e.g. cards.acme.com — you hold the registration1 person — $549 once (Business)

* Figures and plan details for Popl and Dot Card are third-party and unconfirmed — popl.co no longer publishes pricing and states it quotes over a call, so treat those rows as indicative rather than contractual. All other rows are taken from vendor documentation, checked 2026-08-09. A branded sub-domain (subdomain.poplme.co and similar) is recorded here as not a customer-owned domain, because the vendor holds the registration. All prices in USD. NexaLink bills in USD, so a Canadian buyer is charged the USD amount.

What a customer-owned domain costs

Because only one competitor offers one, this is a short comparison. The interesting number is not the monthly rate — it is the number of seats you have to buy before the feature is reachable at all.

Mobilo Enterprise

The only verified customer-owned domain in the set, and it starts at 100 seats. A solopreneur with five brands would have to buy 100 seats to put cards on an address they own.

Seat minimum
100
100 seats, 3 years
$14,400

Calculated at their published Teams rate of $4/user/month on annual billing. Enterprise itself is quoted, not published — so the real figure is higher than this, not lower.

NexaLink Business / Agency

Included on Business at $549 once, with no seat minimum. Agency at $1,199 once adds separate client workspaces, each on the client’s own domain.

Seat minimum
1
250 seats, one payment
$1,199

At 100 seats that is $13,201 less over three years — 92% — and the domain is included rather than being the reason you are on the plan.

Subscription figures assume the price holds for three years — in practice they usually rise. Lifetime figures are the one-time list price. Domain registration and renewal are paid to your registrar and are not included by any platform here, ours included. All prices in USD. NexaLink bills in USD, so a Canadian buyer is charged the USD amount.

What setting one up actually involves

Less than people expect, and the failure modes are boringly consistent. The short version:

  1. Pick a subdomain, not a bare domain. Use cards.acme.com rather than acme.com. Verification runs on a CNAME record and an apex domain cannot carry one, so a bare domain could never verify. It also leaves your main website’s DNS untouched.
  2. Publish one CNAME. Point the subdomain at cname.vercel-dns.com at whichever registrar or DNS provider holds the zone, then hit Verify.
  3. Some domains also need a TXT ownership record. When the apex is already claimed elsewhere, a CNAME alone silently fails to verify, no certificate is issued and the address simply does not load. The Domain screen lists every record still outstanding — publish them in one batch rather than one at a time.
  4. If you are on Cloudflare, turn the proxy off. New records default to proxied (orange cloud). It must be grey, or verification never completes.

That is the architecture. The click-by-click walkthrough — including sender domains, client workspaces and handing a client their own admin — lives in the agency guide, so the two never drift apart.

Where NexaLink includes it

Custom domains sit on Business and Agency. Solo and Team do not include one — worth being blunt about, because seats and cards are separate limits and it is easy to buy the wrong tier.

NexaLink plans — custom domain availability
SoloTeamBusinessAgency / White-Label

Cards (brands)55UnlimitedUnlimited

Solo and Team do not include a custom domain at any price; if you need one, Business is the entry point. Seats are people and cards are brands — Solo is 1 seat but 5 cards, so one person can run several brands without a custom domain. Agency’s client workspaces draw on a shared 250-seat pool and creating a client costs zero seats; seats are consumed only when people actually join. The mobile apps are not white-labelled on any plan. All prices in USD. NexaLink bills in USD, so a Canadian buyer is charged the USD amount.

Common questions

Which digital business card platforms support a custom domain?

Very few. Of the five platforms compared here, only Mobilo offers a genuine customer-owned domain, and it sits on an Enterprise plan with a 100-seat minimum. Popl and HiHello offer branded sub-domains on their own domains, which is a different thing. Blinq and Dot Card do not document a custom domain on any tier. NexaLink includes one on Business and Agency, with no seat minimum.

Is a branded sub-domain the same as a custom domain?

No. A branded sub-domain looks like yourcompany.poplme.co — the vendor still owns the domain, the vendor's name is still in the URL your prospect reads, and if you leave you cannot take the address or redirect it. A custom domain looks like cards.yourcompany.com. You own the registration, you control the DNS, and if you ever move platforms you repoint a record and every link you have ever handed out keeps working.

What DNS records does a custom domain need?

One CNAME on the subdomain you want to use, pointed at cname.vercel-dns.com. Some domains additionally need a TXT ownership record before a certificate can be issued — the Domain screen lists every record still outstanding. If you are on Cloudflare the record must be unproxied (grey cloud, not orange), or verification never completes.

Can I use a bare domain like acme.com?

Use a subdomain such as cards.acme.com. Verification runs on a CNAME record and an apex domain cannot carry one, so a bare domain could never verify. A subdomain is also the safer choice operationally, because it leaves your main website's DNS untouched.

Does a custom domain white-label the mobile app?

No. The NexaLink mobile apps are not white-labelled on any plan. A custom domain changes the card URL, the web card your prospect opens and the branding on it — which is everything a prospect actually sees — but the app your team installs is still NexaLink.

How many custom domains do I get?

Business includes one. Agency is unlimited under a fair-use ceiling of 50 domains, which is far above any legitimate reselling agency's need and can be raised on request. Solo and Team do not include a custom domain at all.
